NIGELS CLASSIC BIKES - STAFF and FRIENDS MOTORCYCLES

Remember the saying 'you are what you eat'? Well, what would you make of these characters in terms of 'you are what you ride?

Here's Will Galliers on his Norton 'Racing' International Model 30M- a real classic bike with lots of history. This was given a run to the Isle of Man in 2009, which is doubly appropriate as the type had much success there and was also the forerunner of the Manx Norton. Nigel was telling me it's very, very noisy, nothing in common with its owner then! The fishtail (Brooklands can) silencer isn't quite satisfying health & safety, but Will's happy! He's planning to take the Norton to the Island again in 2010.

This AJS bigport has been hidden away in Will's bedroom at home.Well, it must be to difficult to get the Jeep upstairs, although much more interesting than your run-of-the-mill teddy.

The TERROT HST - Nigel (yes, this is him) the terrot-ist, was complaining that this bike was only just old enough to enter the Banbury run. He did threaten to start it but as we needed to light a fire under it (just kidding) he gave it a miss. Still, it's an unusual machine and it must be hot stuff being made in the same place as Dijon mustard. Joking apart Nigel is really taken with Terrots and has acquired a 1926 2-stroke with a unique looking inclined cube cooling fin arrangement. The bike has a spare tank for 2-stroke oil under the rear rack and a container for holding a spare drive belt; all designed to allow the early motorcyclist independence from services. The bike is very complete and will make a nice restoration project.

This is Ken our bodywork and painting specialist modeling the X-stream 125 - which is or has been for sale in our catalogue. Ken's normal ride is a more exciting Suzuki Bandit which he unfortuately left at home during the staff picture shoot; this meant he had to have his photo snapped on the most humiliating machine on the premises. However, the X-stream is a fine small bike for a commuter and has an electric start and nice easy to clean alloy wheels. Nice ride!

Here's a good friend of Nigel's Classic Bikes and someone I've known for a long time, John Arthur 'The Duke' French enjoying the bike racing at the Isle of Man in June 2009. John's had a long and distinguished career in the motorcycle industry. He started his time as a bike mechanic in the UK working for a Triumph-BSA dealer, then worked on Harleys and had a good spell with a Kawasaki outlet. He has since emigrated to the USA, where after a long period in a Ducati franchise has risen to area service manager for Ducati in North America. John still enjoys old British bikes, and can be seen here getting his leg over something more classy than he usually manages. I am of course referring to the 1937 Velocette KSS OHC.
